My name is Ari Mendes, born in 1954 in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, currently living in Port St Lucie, Florida, where I have a recording studio ( www.amenstudio.com) . I've played with many greats in Brasil, like Ney Matogrosso, Leila Pinheiro, Sandra Sá , Erasmo Carlos, and many others. Moved to the States in 1989, and played with many jazz, Gospel and pop acts in the Boston area. Studio work is my day job, playing bass, guitar, percussion, and arranging , producing and engineering. I love the variety of challenges that you find at a studio situation.

My basses are NYC Sadowsky 5, MVP Pedulla 5, Music Man Stingray 5 fretless, Fender Precision Hot Rod 4, Carvin xb76p , Dean acoustic, a Jay Turser Hofner knock off ( love it) and an Alembic Elan 6. Also, a project bass based on a Carvin kit , that I strung E to E, kind of a baritone guitar on steroids.
Amps, David Eden traveller with Aguilar cabinets ( 2x10" and 1x15"), and a Hartke kickback 12 for small rooms
Effects, I love the GT 6 B for practicity, but in the studio I would use a U5 Avalon or a TD 1 Millenia as direct boxes, and a variety of pedals from EBS ,Carl Martin, Tc electronics, Boss, Lexicon , etc.
To me, music was created to promote a connection with the unknown, a bridge to the universe.
