Dave Edwards

Reno, Nevada, U.S.A

What a pleasant surprise to find your site! I'm Dave Edwards, I'm a left handed bassist living in Reno, Nevada, U.S.A

A New York City native, I currently live and work in Reno, Nevada. I've played bass with Rick Derringer, Leslie West, Jon Hammond, Otis Rush, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Bobby Radcliff, Jon Paris, Clint Strong, and others. I've also had the pleasure of jamming with Jaco Pastorious, (He was a great pianist too!), and players from the James Brown band. As a direct result of being left handed,( we all know how hard it is to find what you want!) and having a mechanical background, I have been a bass and guitar repair tech for more than 30 years. I do all aspects of repair on upright and electric basses, and guitars of all types. I occasionally design and build as well. I am active in the Reno/Tahoe scene, I play with The Outpsyders, a western swing band, and with Mitch Woods and the Rocket 88's- a great jump swing/blues band. Mitch travels throughout Europe, and if you get a chance to see him, he's a great pianio player.

My Gear: A 3/4 Herman Lowendall viol corner bass violin re-barred lefty, about 80 years old. I also have a 1951 Kay M-1 strung lefty, not re-barred. which works o.k. for amplifying. I use an Underwood pickup. I play a 5 string Edwards made of solid flamed maple, surprisingly light weight, with an ebony board, Alembic pickups and 'Stanley Clarke' circut. I have a 4 string Edwards made of honduras Mahogany with Bartolini pickups, and an old 'Stars Guitars' pre-amp. Danelectro 'DC' bass, Fender '62 re-issue Jazz bass strung with flatwounds, a Warmoth Precision bass- swamp ash body with maple neck/rosewood board- a killer sounding bass. I use Ernie Ball Stainless 'hybrid slinky' roundwounds, and Fender and Ernie Ball stainless flatwounds. I use an Swr Workingmans' 12 for upright-jazz gigs, an Ampeg B-248 combo,- and a Mackie M-1400 with an SWR Grand Prix pre-amp and a BBE direct box for larger gigs. I own 9 cabinets, which include a Sunn 1-18 VH folded horn, a Cerwin-Vega B-36-mf folded horn, Peavey 2-10 tx, Trace Elliot 2-10, Trace 1-15, custom made 1-15 folded horn- w/foster tweeter, Ampeg B-410 hlf, Gallien Krueger 4-10, and an SWR Triad. I'm trading the Peavey for an extremely rare Sunn 2-15 folded horn. As you can see I'm a great believer in the folded horn design for bass.. I'm always looking to buy/sell or trade cabinets! I love to see lefty basses, and if anyone has an Alembic series 2 long scale to sell or trade, one in need of repairs is preferred, please contact me!! Thanks, Arni for a truly great site!

Dave´s new bass:

I made a new bass a little more than a year ago, I don't know if I sent you a photo, (here's one if I didn't) it's a lot like my other 5 pictured on your site, but differs a bit. It has a one piece flamed maple body, flamed maple neck, with a Pau-Ferro fingerboard and small vintage fretwire. It's painted a Trans 'pumpkin' orange. It has 2 EMG 40 dc-5 pickups, and the complete bqs eq system. The neck is a prototype, and has huge dimensions for a 5 string. It measures 2 1/4" at the nut and has a wide/flat profile. It feels more like a 6 string neck. I like it a lot. It sounds absolutely amazing, the big neck assures that.
