AS A BASSPLAYER

This is Iñigo Corcuera, leftie bassplayer from Spain. I'm a professional bassplayer from over 20 years (or more). I've playing with lots of artists and projects in Spain.

Right now I am the bassplayer for the Mauri Sanchis Band, a Hammond player from Alcoy (alicante), one of the grooviest keyboard players in Spain. Check his web, www.maurisanchis.com

As anyone from the music bussiness know we must work at different kinds of low and high profile projects. I also have worked for:

Ennio Morricone orchestra, what a big project. We can't reach to understand what a full orchestra sound until you have to play with them !!!

Andermay, electronic pop group from Spain, with a big projection into dance music with some hits. Big project in the horizon for 2011 … I can't say more right now ...

Los Chimberos, a popular folk-voices group from the Bask Country pointed to the older audience. Don't joke about this because they are the only people who buy records!!!. Have you ever

seen a 100 cd's box sold in 15 min time after a concert? ...

Luis Farnox, El mecánico del Swing, a folky-pop project with his leader, Luis Farnox, maybe one of the funniest man in Madrid. Bloody good fun in every concert.

Patricia Krauss, a pop singer from the 90's, daughter of Alfredo Krauss, one of the biggest tenors around the world.

Also I have played in some local and no so local jazz and funk bands and participated in some of their recordings.

TV shows on Tele5, maybe one of the first TV shows in Spain with a live band on stage.

I also have an intense activity as bass teacher. I am part of MrJam Centro Moderno de Música, Bilbao (www.mrjam.com). The place to be in the north of Spain if you want to progress

hrough modern music learning.

I participated in the last two works from Mauri Sanchis. In GrooveWords I was responsable of most of the recordings and also played in two of the tracks. They were made at MrJam studio.

This recording was coproduced by Mauri himself and Dean Brown (Marcus Miller musical director), big names in the recording like Dean Brown, Randy Brecker, Chuck Loeb, Reggie

Washington, etc and mixed by BassyBob (Christina Aguilera among many others)

Mauri's latest release will be quite soon. I also have participated in its recording last summer.


AS A STUDENT

After studying in Bilbao I moved to London. I had classes with Joe Hubbard at The Bass Center (87-89, long time ago). Also I had classes with Gary Burton, David Clark and Greg Badolato

from Berklee and Marcelo Fuentes (Ketama first bassist). Also I had intense theoric music studies all the way.

MY BASSES

I've got the following basses:

- Warwick Thumbass '96, 5 strings: maybe the best bass I have. Jamiroquai type of sound that I am really into. It has the older bubinga neck, fantastic feel.

- Warwick Fortress 1, '94, 4 strings: a second-hand bought in Germany. Also with the older neck.

- Fender Jazz Bass, 4 strings, Japan: a classic with and Audere passive preamp. Fantastic sound but I don't like the preamp. I thinking to sell it.

- Warmoth Jazz Bass: a fantastic option. Build your own bass. The very best of everything. Not cheap asian parts. This one is all maple (very heavy) but being the wood so heavy and dense

gives the sound a quick and snappy feel. Funky slap sound like a dream in this bass.

- Warmoth Jazz Bass fretless: with maple neck and walnut body it dries the sound a bit. Nice sound but not so alive than the other one.

- Yamaha TRB 1005: I am still surprised about the sound of this bass. It is quite impossible to find a bad sound from it. Sounds awesome. The only drawback can be that its fingerboard is

almost completely flat, not bowen like a JB. It needs you to accomodate to it quite a bit.

- EAB 4 strings: a cheap but good sounding bass. Some time ago in a trip to Holland I found a left acoustic bass (cutaway included) so had to buy it. No options. I have not dig enough on it.

- A double bass: a 35 years old chinese double bass with a very nice sound. I added it a Fishman pickup and preamp so the sound is dense enough.

MY AMPS

- Gallien Krueger 400RB III: GK produces a very clean sounding amps. Punchy and clear although no hifi like SWR's, something that I like. It lets you look for a sound, no like SWR's or Trace Elliot's that came with "their" sound incorporated.
- SWR 4x10' cab: one of the old Workinman's series. It's got 15 years old and still like the first day.
- Gallien Krueger MB150: The easiest amp to carry around. Also punchy within its small size.
