I was born in Camden, New Jersey, U.S.A.. I began my path into music by listening to such bands as Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Iron Maiden. At age thirteen, I bought my first musical instrument, an old and battered beginners electric bass (right-handed). I reversed the strings and made minor adjustments to it to accomodate my left-handedness. In the process, I became aware of fundamental bass construction and design.

Within a few years, I joined a heavy metal band called Deadly Blessing. About one year later, we signed a record contract with a small label from California and released one EP and one album. The debut album "Ascend From The Cauldron" was well received by critics and is considered a collectors piece to this day.

Three years after joining Deadly Blessing, I left the band for a life in New York City. This led to short-lived runs with a few New York area groups. One of which was The Cycle Sluts From Hell but just after parting ways with them, I landed the position as bass player for Doro Pesch, for whom I still play with today.

In early 2001, I recorded and released a solo cd called Through The Pane. I played most of the instruments myself but had some help from my very talented friends. It's available at www.cdbaby.com/nickdouglas.

In late 2004, Immediately following a Doro tour, I picked up a tour with England's legendary heavy metal vocalist, Blaze Bayley (Wolfsbane, Iron Maiden). Being a big Iron Maiden fan, that was a huge thrill! In mid 2005, I toured with guitarist, Chris Caffery (Savatage, Trans Siberian Orchestra), supporting his well received solo release "Faces".

My Equipment:
For live shows in Europe, I mostly use my lefty Warwick Buzzard LTD bass. I also have two Vigier Arpege basses. For amplification, I go through a Warwick Tubepath 10.1 bass head and a Warwick WCA 811 Neo Pro bass cabinet. For pedals, I use a Guyatone BL2 Bottom Limiter and Boss TU-2 Chromatic Pedal Tuner.

Because I can be a bit exuberant onstage, I use an AKG wireless system. I like stainless steel strings and have been using Warwick Red Labels live and find them
to be satisfactory.

In the U.S. I have a Warwick Streamer Jazzman LX 5-string bass which records very well. Also an Ernie Ball Stingray 5, A Fender Precision (with an added jazz pickup), and a Vigier Passion bass which some years ago was made into a fretless.
