Tim Gagan started traveling early. When he was two months old, he took an airplane trip from St. Louis, MO to live in Albuquerque, NM. As a teenager, he found himself in Abiquiu, a small town in Northern NM where Georgia O’Keefe lived. Being far too young to hang out with Georgia, Tim had little to do besides trying to play guitar like Elmore James. That’s something nobody other than the Jamester can really do, so Tim took his guitar down the 70’s blues-rock-fusion-jazz road so common among guitar players in the disco decade. After a harrowing experience with a Top 40 circuit band, Tim believed ever more in the beauty of playing his own music. With that on his mind, he found himself in Seattle in 1982. Working in a restaurant with future members of Gas Huffer, he developed an appreciation for slam dancing, and went on to play in a punk band in Santa Fe for a few years. The shows were too short so he took a turn south toward Latin America, then north to Vermont complete an international studies program, into which he was able to sneak some Latin American folk guitar playing. For the next three years Tim was an office worker by day, and a country guitar player and a Bicho by night. Then circum-stances conspired to have him playing in a band with his brother Joe. He gladly obliged.
