Arni, what a great idea! It's about time we Southpaws unite! My name is David Wilson, and I am a lefty bassist, and have been for 20 years. I tour with various groups, and when in town, I do sessions. I live in Nashville, TN., and although I do my fair share of Country music (mainly sessions), the main types of music

I get the call for are R&B, funk, jazz, gospel and blues. Nashville is a great place to be, because there are SO MANY great players! I am currently touring with Waldo Weathers, former sax player for James Brown. It's a Maceo Parker-type of gig, with lots o' greasy funk at ya! My main bass and love of my life these days is a lefty Lakland 55 Deluxe 5 string, the 2nd lefty made by Lakland, with a swamp ash body, AAAA quilted maple top, birdseye fingerboard, lefty strung righty, just like Jimmy Haslip (as a matter of fact, I used to own a Roscoe 6 string that Jimmy borrowed for a Bass Frontiers Magazine photo shoot!!).

I have used many other basses in the past, and I tell you, THIS BASS IS MAGIC!!!!! I've included a picture of it as an attachment; I hope you can open it! The photo was taken at the factory the day it was finished. My other bass is a custom built lefty Jazz Bass built here in Nashville. For sound, I use an older Demeter preamp w/ Jenson tube direct out, Crown Macro Tech 600 power amp, and for the vast majority of my gigs, my cabinet is a Goliath Sr. 6x10 cab. For smaller gigs, I use an SWR goliath Jr. 4x10. My road cases are Fenton Labs, and my cables are Monster Cables. The only pedal I use is an EBS octabass.

If you add me to your website, visitors can hear samples of the latest CD I'm on as a member of an R&B/ Blues group I work with, the Christian Hastings Band. The link is www.christianhastingsband.com.

My current gig is with country artist Sammy Kershaw. I have been with him for just over a year now. My equipment has changed, too. My current touring bass is a lefty MTD 535. My live signal chain is: my bass, into a Boss TU-2 tuner, then into a Trace Elliott SMX Dual Compressor, then into a Euphonic Audio iamp 350 head, and out to the front of house. I am on ears, so I don't need a cabinet. My backup bass is either a custom Jazz 5, or my Spector 5. I am endorsed by Dean Markley strings.
