I started playing bass when I was 17 after hearing Les Claypool
of Primus. I built my first in woodwork at school, as I couldn't afford a "real"
        lefthanded bass.
I was in band straight away and had my first gig four weeks after I started playing.
As I was only new to it, I played the entire set on the e-string, just moving up and
down to find the right note. That was a punk band called Few Too Many.
For a few years I was also playing for another punkband called Infringement. We did
okay and it was a lot of fun. A couple of tracks are on the cd.
I auditioned for, and got, a spot in a band called The Brain, which was to be my best
achievement, music wise. We were together for three and a half years and tracks from
that time are on this cd. Please note that they are demos only and were never released.
After quitting The Brain I took some time off and tried to get some acoustic style
things off the ground. Nothing eventuated, but I am still very much interested in that
style of music and hope to do something in that vein at some point.
I was called up and and asked to join Nuclear Octave; a two piece, with a lot of backing
tracks!! We were around for a about a year and have only just split up just before
        christmas.
I currently own a MusicMan Stingray 5 in natural (see photo) and a G&L L2000 in
blue burst with maple neck. Both are great instruments!!
I also play through a 600w David Eden "Road Runner" head and 2x10 and 1x15
Eden cabs. They are wicked too!! I also run a Lovetone "Meatball" envelope
        filter and a Sadowsky pre-amp.
Currently Working pretty full on with a day job but still trying to put together a
        Regurgitator/Beastie Boys/Mr. Bungle style band.
My favorite bands are: Primus, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Danny Elfman, Nick Cave, Dave
Matthews Band and Roger the Band.
I also work very often for The Bass Player shop (www.bassplayer.com.au) and that is a lot of fun! Through them I
have a job distributing player's strings brand of bass strings and doing all of the
things that are attributed to that, which is a fantastic. I should also point out that
        they are great strings!!!
If anyone wants to email me, I can be found at either: lyates@hih.com.au
